News around the Clubhouse

3.5.2010

Well, the season is off to a flyer! Two teams with numbers on the bench in each. 5 wins out of 6 games. Couldnt ask for a lot better really. It has been great to see so many new players down to the club and some numbers coming trhough from the "Juniors". We have been playing some really attractive football and acheiving some good results. Clearly the season is new and there is a long way to go. We need to keep recruiting and to make the club a place where everyone feels welcome, including families.

Some may have noticied ater my abscence last game, how much there is to do to get ready for a game. Special thanks to those that lways help out, but particulaly to Matt, Gav, Frosty and Woodsy who are there every week
(fortnight). Also particular thanks to Kotsa, Affie and George who help every game without fail. The support we get from the Juniors is second to none!

Numbers at training have been fantastic and there is a really good vibe around the place. The new blokes have bought an enthusiasm and vitality that we all remember from rediscovering footy. As they say "you dont stop playing because you get old, you get old because you stop playing".

We do need subs in and we also need money from those players that took humpers and shorts. It is surprising how much it costs to run a club! Stay tuned for details of our first social function in the next month or so. But the $2000 raffle this Sat night is always a massive night. Get your tickets soon.

See you on the track - SB

9.4.10

The new leadership group was decided on at training last night.

Captain - Browny

VC's - Nuts, Woodsy, Paul B, Tony G, SB

Well done and congratulations to all. Well done to everyone to get two sides up and running. Looking forward to the weekend.

There is a NEW fixture.

This has been made necessary by the withdrawal of the Western Devils Masters Side. I have made a fixture page in order to keep people informed but you can also find it at the link below.

Not every game is a double header now, it will take me a while to digest it.

We will be voting for captain on Thursday night, so nominations are now accepted.

Every home game is a double header as are some away games! Makes for a good day!

Recruit hard!

Full fixture available at http://mafv.com/notices/

The Gold Coast Old Boys have organized a pre-season tournament for the weekend of the 13th of March.

We are keen to send a team and need to find out what sort of numbers we are looking at in order to try and arrange a group travel booking.

There are between 12 and 16teams competing, the boys up there have arranged some accommodation deals and an after party at the Robina Football Club as well as deals with several bars and nightclubs.

3 or 4 short games over the Saturday in a Round Robin format. I have just emailed them and asked for some more detail and I will post it as it comes to hand. If you are considering it, might be time to start working on the other half, or bring them up as well.

Right, just to keep Bucky happy, I have saved the old news in another place and we will start off Season 2010 here!

No news........

No, just kidding. As many of you know, we are trying to start an over 40's side next year in conjunction with our over 35's. To do this, we need some serious recruiting.

If your children are involved in a junior club, many of them have open days. For example, Whitehorse Colts Open Day is this Sunday. I am taking some flyers down to try and recruit...if you are able to do the same thing at your club, let me know and I will get you some flyers.

There is no official date for pre-season as yet. We normally start after the Australia Day weekend, but that may be too far away for some. If you want a run, the Seniiors have been training since late October and are keen for any interested Supers players to join them. You can train at your own pace and the bar is open following. See the calendar page for some more details.

I have also received an email from the Gold Coast Old Boys Football Association. They are running a Round Robin Tournament in March. Sounds like a great weekend. I will include the deails below. I have a preference for the later date.

As discussed please find attached some summary details of the Gold Coast Old Boys club pre season club tournament 2010.

It would be fantastic to get you guys involved & we can guarantee a fun weekend of beers, bbqs, women (oh yeh and some footy)

As discussed the following summary details are as follows

Date:

TBC however more than likely (subject to ground confirmation) will be either:

 Friday 5th - Sunday 7th March 2010

OR

Friday 12th - Sunday 14th March 2010

Gold Coast Old Boys league will assist with the following:

Accommodation:                             Various options will be available.   GCOB will provide teams with numerous different  accommodation options (dependant if your club is coming on a family weekend or a boys trip – or a combination of both).

Airport Transfers:                            Groups will be collected & dropped back to Gold Coast airport

Meals & drinks:                                We are currently in negotiation with several venues to either sponsor and/or subsidise meals & drinks for the weekend

Flights:                                                 We are currently speaking to several flight operators to see if we can make some group reservations.  As soon as we hear back we will let you all know!

FYI flights for either of these weekends with Tiger Airways is only $160 (leaving Friday & back to Melbourne on Sunday/Monday).

Format:

-          We are currently confirming ground availabilities and dependant on how many teams are interested in attending the weekend, we are aiming to have 2 divisions (possibly 3) which will be graded on skill levels of the individual teams entering.

-          At this stage we are trying to secure 2 grounds & the format will be 2 * 10 or 15 minute halves (again depending on number of teams that have entered & fitness levels of the teams per division).

-          We will aim to get each team a minimum of 2 or 3 games plus finals.

-          Again, dependant on teams entering, we will aim to have the competition completed on the one day (Saturday) with the day culminating in the Grand Final (possibly under lights).

-          After that an official function will be organised at a local bar/restaurant

-          BBQs & drinks will be available all throughout the day

-          Transportation will be provided to and from hotels to playing venues

Trip Itinerary/Costings:

GCOB will put together a weekend package for all teams that will include:

-          Accommodation

-          Airport transfers

-          Transfers to and from the ground venues to hotels

-          Discounted meals & drinks at various venues

-          Free/discounted entry into nightclubs, etc

Plus we will be aiming to also assist with flights (if we can secure some group bookings).

As a rough guide we will be aiming to put the following package together for approx $200-250 (hopefully closer to $200)

-          Two nights accommodation

-          Transfers (from airports & also on game day)

-          Discounts at pubs/restaraunts, etc (possibility of a meal and some complimentary drinks as part of that package)

Summary:

-          The weekend will aim to be as flexible & as fun as possible for all teams attending

-          All clubs from all different standards/fitness levels, etc will be catered for

-          We are currently in process of inviting most old boys/Super Rules clubs from the Eastern states to hopefully come up for the weekend

-          Should clubs not be able to attend then it would be appreciated if you can still pass on the details as we can place individuals (or small groups from a club) into mixed teams, etc.

-          As soon as we know a final date in March then we will pass that on

-          Also if you would like to invite the wives & girlfriends, etc then they are more than welcome as well
